About Me

Hello, I'm so happy you're here!

I'm Katherine, founder and sole creator of Type & Twine. I am a designer, lettering artist, calligrapher, illustrator and maker; I'm a perfectionist with an eye for the little details, bookworm and lover of countryside walks and wildlife.

The Story of Type & Twine

Planted in 2018, bloomed in 2020!

2018, the year I graduated University and thus got thrown into the big wide adult world. Throughout my years at university and after undertaking internships in big design agencies in London I realised the city and agency life was not for me. I moved back to my family home, and temporarily picked up my old summer job while I figured out where I was meant to end up.

Whilst working at the countryside cafe /campsite / holiday cottage let and taking up a variation of manual and busy roles I started to then also take on some more creative tasks. I was painting murals, hand-lettering menu specials, designing maps and this was the spark that ignited my love for working independently and my desire to start a small business. With a wealth of experience under my belt I took the leap and left my old summer job and started freelancing full time!

2020, as we all know, was the year the world went crazy! Just like everyone else, my work slowed dramatically in 2020 due to the pandemic. While it was a worrying time, the slow pace of life the situation provided allowed me to start creating pieces that I wanted to make, and also to create pieces just for the hell of it, which is something I hadn't done in a long time! It also gave me pause to think about the direction I wanted my freelance designing to go and to really consider selling my artwork as well. And so, after a long amount of deliberation... Type & Twine was born!

Brand Values...

British Farming

Having grown up on a working farm in Oxfordshire, farming has always been close to my heart. Through everything I do at Type & Twine, I aim to promote the importance of British Farming, sustainable farming and encourage others to realise the hard work, determination and stress that our farmers face everyday in order to provide the food for our tables.

Sustainability

With Type & Twine HQ being surrounded amongst the rolling country hills and hidden in luscious forests these are obviously some of my favourite places to be, so why wouldn't I do my part in helping to sustain it? From sourcing all products from within the UK, to only using reusable, recyclable, compostable or biodegradable materials for packaging. I try my best wherever I can to be as eco-conscious as possible!
